Homemade Boursin Herb and Garlic Cheese Spread

 

Does anyone else love Boursin cheese? My love affair with it started a few months ago. We picked up the large three pack from our local Sam’s Club. It contained 2 rounds of garlic and herb and 1 round of shallot and chives. It was around $9 dollars for 3 rounds. Because I was iffy on if I would like it, I assumed that it would last for a fairly long time. Guess what?  That 3 pack was gone in four days. We must have been to Sam’s Club 5 times that month for that 3 pack of Boursin cheese.

Eventually, I came to my senses and my husband soon followed. Spending $40-50 a month on that delicious cheese was not an option. So I went about working on a recipe for Faux-Boursin Herb and Garlic Cheese Spread. There was some trial and error. For instance, Raw Garlic was too spicy. Using a food processor really messed with the texture of the cheese spread and it didn’t really set up no matter how long it stayed in the fridge. After troubleshooting these issues, the final product is all that I hoped for. We haven’t bought the 3 pack since I created this recipe. I would say that with the saving from making my own version that I like it better that the original.

 

Faux-Boursin Herb and Garlic Cheese Spread

2-8oz packages of Philadelphia cream cheese softened (less than 1 carb per serving)

4 Tablespoons of unsalted butter softened

¼ cup of dried chives (1 use this!)

1 teaspoon of garlic powder (I use this!)

1 Tablespoon of dried parsley

1Tablespoon of dried basil

¼ teaspoon of salt (I use this!)

1 Tablespoon of dried onion (I use this!)(optional)

 

Directions: Mix cream cheese and butter until thoroughly combined. I mix them by hand, but a hand mixer would work nicely. Once the cream cheese and butter are combined, add the dried chives, parsley, basil, onion (optional), garlic powder and salt. Mix until the herbs are nicely dispersed. Enjoy with baked low carb tortilla chips, Italian deli meats, veggies or a grilled steak/chicken.
